The exterior walls are literally the first impression that your home makes, and when these walls are adorned by a high-quality wall paint of an ideal colour, it brings the out the true beauty of your home.

Selecting the right paint for your exterior walls is no easy task. Exterior wall paints being the first line of defence for the walls, cannot be compromised in terms of its quality of paint as it would result in heavy loss to the walls in the long run. Exterior walls have to face the full wrath of nature without any respite, be it sun, rain, dust or wind.

Keeping in mind the many challenges that an exterior wall faces, Kamdhenu Paints have come up with a new product, Kamostar Exterior Emulsion, which is a performance quality exterior paint.

An acrylic polymer based emulsion, the Kamostar emulsion is an excellent option for exterior walls in moderately humid and dry areas. One of the best features of this paint is that it is incredibly versatile and can be applied on many surfaces like cement plaster, concrete & asbestos etc. This paint also offers great protection against natural forces and provides excellent resistance to common problems like chalking, flaking and weathering.

Now that we understand the product, let us see how we can get the best out of it. Here are a handful of tips on how you should use Kamdhenu Kamostar

1. Surface Preparation – Before you start painting the exterior walls, ensure that the plaster on the walls is completely dry & clean, and make sure that there is no dust, flakes or grease etc on the walls.

The one thing that you must strictly check for any dampness on the exterior walls. If there are any water leakages or seepages on the walls, get it repaired before you start painting the walls.  If you are painting a wall that has been previously painted, clean the surface thoroughly by removing all the loosely adhering powdery materials of defective paint by brushing, scraping and water jetting.  

2. Gathering supplies – For painting your exterior walls with Kamostar emulsion, you need to source the following supplies:

  • Kamostar exterior emulsion, available in packs of 1 litre, 4 litres, 10 litres & 20 Litres, is available in 2500+ colours and has a medium washability. The coverage area of the paint is 11-13 Sq.m / litre for a single coat** & 6-8 Sq.m/Litre for two coats**. A Horizontal surface like top of window, ledges should be painted with 3 coat of Kamostar for greater protection.
  • Kamocare & Kamoplast wall putty, which will be used for your surface preparation.
  • Kamostar exterior wall primer, which improves the durability of the paint and protects the walls in the long run.
  • Separate Brush, spray or rollers for wall primer and paint. The recommended brush & roller size for the primer is 50mm to 60mm and for wall paint it is 75mm.

3. Precautions – Before you apply the paint, you’ll need to dilute the paint with water. While doing this be careful to not over-dilute it. Stir well and strain the paint before you apply it on the exterior walls. Also, paint those areas first, which are vertical to rainfall, for example, top surfaces of sunshades.

The paint has to be used within 24 hours of being diluted and has to be given 4-6 hours for drying after each coat. It has 3 years of shelf life but has to be kept away from sunlight and direct heat. Although the paint is non-flammable and eco-friendly, it is advisable to wear protective clothing and gloves for painting.

4. Diluting – Both the primer and paint have to be diluted with water, before being applied to the exterior walls, here are the recommendations for it:

Primer – Add 500 to 600ml of water to 1 litre of water.  

Kamostar Emulsion – Add maximum 750ml of water for every 1 litre of paint.

5. Paint application – Finally, here are the 4 steps for applying the Kamostar exterior emulsion

  • Step 1 – Prepare the wall by applying Kamocare & Kamoplast wall putty, and let it rest for at least 4 hours.
  • Step 2 – Apply Kamoprime Exterior wall Primer, and let it dry for another 4 hours.
  • Step 3 – Paint the first coat of Kamostar Exterior Emulsion and give it 4 – 6 hours.
  • Step 4 – Paint the second and final coat, and let it dry.
